Week 4 and So Much More

To follow up missing a daily post for the first time during our previous week, I decided to follow it up by missing six straight posts. It was a totally intentional statement on what to expect out of this blog. Or something like that. In semi-seriousness, some life stuff got in the way and I didn't have much to post about. But as they say in show business, "The blog must go on."

Not much happened this past week as far as development goes. In fact, nothing happened according to the blog. And since we don't care about my life or opinions here, that means nothing happened period. In the background, I did get started on the quest system for ARventure. Unfortunately, there were some snags that I ran into and since I didn't have much time to devote to it, progress was held up. I'll probably do a short post discussing the issues soonish. I still also want to write a bit about my plans for the quest system and the types of objectives, but I'm still not sure I should do that before I've laid the groundwork for the actual system.

In other news, without the drive to post daily, I ended up posting nothing this past week. That's probably a bad sign. Granted, I did say I would post about progress I make and no progress was made, but the daily posts did push me to have something to show. On the flip-side, not all of that progress was meaningful and giving myself only a day to create something worth showing wasn't conducive to good development practices. And so we find ourselves stuck between a rock and a hard place. This week, I'm going to try a bit of a schedule. I'm not entirely sure what the schedule will be yet, but I'm going to stick to it. The tentative schedule is a progress report on Thursday and Sunday, with one of these weekly review posts on Monday as usual. The gives me a couple of days to get things moving before posting, then a couple more days to finish up. Should be a good set up, if I can actually adhere to it.

Now that I think about it (as in literally just thought of while writing), this week may be a good week to test out a new format. Rather than a shallower progress report on Thursday, I could write that post about the types of objectives and whatnot for the quest system, then write about some implementation details on Sunday. That way I can think things through via posting instead of rushing into development for the sake of writing a post. Sounds dangerously like a plan to me. Guess you'll have to wait and see what happens next.
