Blogged Down

Oh boy. Usually I follow a very simple rule when it comes to posting things online: don't. This has undoubtedly saved me from countless headaches across the Internet, from Youtube comments to Reddit, but it has also made me more than a little reluctant to jump into this whole blogging thing.

Lately, it seems like every aspiring game dev is starting up a devblog. The good ones are awesome, providing genuinely useful insights and knowledge. I, on the other hand, never felt like I would have much of value to post. And that's not to mention the fact that my particular brand of snarkasm™ probably won't translate to text.

That said, I also have very little expectation that anyone will actually read this, so that pretty much renders my other points moot. Besides, it's not like a lack of worthwhile content, jokes falling flat, or having no readers stops any other blogger. So here we are, just me and you, my hypothetical reader.

Really, the only reader I'm expecting, and subsequently writing these for, is future me. And even that is maybe a 50/50 shot. The hope is to write about the things I'm working on, so as I pick up and drop projects, I can come here to reminisce or even get myself back up to speed if I resume work on something later on. This will be my place to anecdotally document and show off all the small projects and half-ideas I work on that typically don't see the light of day.

This blog probably won't be especially insightful or educational, but that's alright. Here I can focus on the things that aren't portfolio quality, write down notes and ideas, and remind myself where my head was at when I was working on each project. Worst case scenario, maybe someone will follow a link here from my portfolio, see there are words on the page, and continue on their way. It's pretty much a win-win. And the cherry on top is I can just end these posts without coming to some meaningful conclusion.
