Set in Stone
Alright, five and a half months is probably enough time between posts.
Last time we talked, I once again made a lofty plan that I didn't follow through with. Pretty much par for the course. It's starting to seem like trying to force myself to do things simply for the sake of doing them isn't working out for me. Especially when I've been holding off on starting several projects I actually want to work on.
For a long while I've sat on a handful of ideas that I'm genuinely interested in working on, but I've held off on until I felt I could "get it right". My intention was to work on smaller projects and pad out my portfolio, as if I had to earn the right to work on my dream project. And that's silly. Instead of making any sort of progress, I was put off working entirely simply because I wasn't inspired or motivated by the busywork I had assigned myself. I'm not going to do that anymore.
Now, let's talk about what I am going to do. I've begun working on one of those dream projects I mentioned. Like many of the other ideas I've kept on the back-burner, it's certainly ambitious, but not exactly a full game. Or at least not a full game yet. So here's the plan: I'm going to work on what I've come up with so far and talk about my progress here on the blog. As the project takes shape, we'll start figuring out the rest of the game.
There is no doubt that I will mess up. A lot. Most things probably won't work out the first time around, but that's okay. The important part is that I will not settle or half-ass anything. If something doesn't look, feel, or work how I want it to, I'll keep poking at it until I get it right. I'll have to learn new skills, techniques, and technologies as I go and that is entirely the point. In this way, the project will encompass the key elements of my original 3 Pillars plan, all wrapped up in one neat package.
That's about all I've got for now. This post has been a bit vague, I know, but I'll go into more details about my project in its own post series soon enough. Stay tuned for that.
