House Keeping
I was feeling extra productive today and decided to reorganize the blog a bit. Since I started the blog (over a year ago!) I've been pretty lax with how I labeled my posts. I would haphazardly assign labels to posts, creating new labels for one-off posts and sometimes even changing the label in the middle of a series of posts. It was pretty silly and in the interest of keeping up the appearance that this blog is meant to be read by people that aren't me, I decided to go through and re-categorize my past posts. It wasn't overly difficult though, so I can't pat myself on the back too much. I mainly renamed the old labels, removed/combined some superfluous ones, and tried to narrow down the scope of what I was actually posting about.
I ended up with 3 "main" labels: Blog Updates, Game Dev, and Programming. I'm going to try to keep these categories distinct, with minimal overlap, to maintain an accurate (public) count of posts. Blog Updates is sort of a consolidation of the old Misc Stuff and Weekly Update labels. Since I no longer do weekly updates, it didn't make much sense to keep a label for it and Misc Stuff was always a mess, so it's good to have a label specifically for meta-posts like this where I talk about the blog itself. The Game Dev label is for projects and other posts that cover the development process, while the Programming label is reserved primarily for the one-off posts that actually look at code or my code-y workflow. Any and all posts will hopefully fall under one of these labels, and then projects will further be grouped together with their respective project label.
To further aid navigation with the project labels, I redid the Projects section in the sidebar. Now any inconsistencies should be fixed and all the posts for each project should all be found under the same label. Woohoo! I've also renamed the sidebar section to "Projects & Series" to make the newcomer, Scripts in the Workplace, feel welcome. Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, Blogger does not have a decent system for listing posts in reverse-chronological order, so it's a pain to go through a series in order. Not that I expect someone to want to dig in and read through a series, but having the option would be nice.
And that's about all for the moment. Nothing huge, but I'm trying to get back into the swing of posting every now and then because I want to. It's a much better alternative to posting because I feel bad for neglecting the blog for 6 months.
